In A Funk
It's late Friday night and I am waiting for Samantha to get home from the drive in movies. She went with another family and was soooo excited to have her first drive in movie experience.
When ever I want to go the kids look at me like I am some kind of backwards freak. However, it seems, when you are invited by another family it is fun.
Go figure.
My boys are all playing video games, Dave's watching old baseball games (I'm sorry, I guess they are called "classic") on cable and Paige is hanging out with the dogs.
She's trying to get them to dance with her, but she's not having any luck.

You would think since she got all dressed up in her flapper costume someone would take her for a spin around the house.

She gave up. Her family is being a bunch of party poopers tonight.

This evening is full of excitement.
I'm in a funk tonight.
Normally I would be ordering the family to all get together in the living room for a movie night or to play a game.
Tonight I am just leaving everyone alone to do their own thing.
Do you ever have days where you feel so mentally exhausted you just want to crawl under the covers and never come out?
I do.
I'm having one of them today.
To much stress, to much drama, to much of everything.
Uggh.
I'm taking comfort in the fact that tomorrow is a brand new day.
Have a good one my friends.

Did you know that there is now a channel devoted to baseball 24 hours a day? Yeah, me neither. Seems it just started in our part of the woods.
Baseball all day every day.
Really I have no words to express my excitement over this new phenomenon.
Really.

Late Night Dating
Last night hubby put Paige into bed around 9:00 p.m.. All of the other kids, except Tyler, had already passed out in their beds.
New Years Eve did not end until I ordered everyone to GO TO BED. That was at 5:00 a.m.. (on January 1!) I kept trying to fall asleep but all I could hear was the sound of screaming teenagers (they said they were trying to be quite) playing some sports game on the x-box.
I remember I used to be able to stay up all night.
Now it makes me sick to my stomach. It really is hell getting older.
Anyway, back to my original story.
With all the kids sound asleep by 9:00 p.m. and Tyler (who got a nap) not feeling like he needed to go to bed, hubby and I snuck out of the house for a date at Barnes and Noble.
We searched through all the sale items and they had all their classic books buy 2 get one free.
IT. WAS. FABULOUS.
I love dates like that. We had Starbucks and read through books without any one asking us when we would be leaving.
Pretty close to heaven if I do say so myself.
They stayed open until 11:00 p.m. and I spent way to much money on Christmas books from the 50% off table.
I simply could not resist.
What kind of fun did you have this first day of 2009?

A Change In Plans
I wanted to take all of the kids to Disneyland today. They are all decorated for Christmas already and it snows every night after the fire works on main street. Truly magical, and I love it.
I had told the older boys that they didn't have to go to school today so they could go with us. Their Daddy didn't like this very much. He thinks I am way to lenient and let them miss to much school for fun days. He may be right, but I can't resist spending time with them. I love it when we are all together.
So, I broke the news to them that they would be going to school and we would make another trip soon (we have passes) when we could all go together. They were not happy and whined that none of their friends would be at school because everyone was headed out of town for the long weekend. I told them that their Dad was right and I do let them miss to much school. They would have to go.
Hubby and I have very different opinions on this subject. Our kids get excellent grades and are blessed with the ability to breeze through school with very little effort. So, I see no reason why they can't miss a day now and then (like once every six weeks) for a fun family day. He thinks I am teaching them bad habits and if it is a school day they should be in school. Lets just say we agree to disagree. However, in front of our children I support my husbands view, and let them know he is the final authority. Then we go into the bedroom where we talk privately and I plead my case because I am the biggest kid of all and want a day off to go and play. lol.
So, last night the older boys were at the kitchen table sulking while doing their homework. I had to laugh when their younger siblings would tease them that IF THEY were homeschooled they could go on our field trip to Disneyland.
A while later I walked through the room again and noticed they weren't looking quite as sad. I thanked them for being good sports about the whole thing when Zach chimed in that Dad had told them that if they did homework for 90 minutes without complaining they could go with us.
What a softy.
Unfortunately when we woke this morning rain was pouring down outside and we had to change our plans. Instead we are spending the day cooking yummy food for tomorrow, playing games together, arguing as only siblings can, and being happy we are all together.
We have the added bonus of having Hubby home with us. I think he is finally seeing the wisdom in my point of view. No work for him today. Just a day of family fun.

The Tree Part II
This morning I had my second favorite person coming over to clean our carpets. You can read about my first favorite here.
John has been cleaning our carpets since my oldest was a baby. He is quite a character and is always good for a laugh.
He was suppose to show up around 10:30 to start which was the same time I had an appointment at the middle school for conferences with the kids teachers.
I got up early (6:00 am which is the crack of dawn at my house) showered and got dressed before getting the kids off to school. I then moved all the furniture off the carpets because I wanted this to be a really good scrubbing.
Then after I was all sweaty from moving the furniture around I put the two younger kids into the car and headed off for my conferences.
After said conferences I collected my children and had the brilliant idea that I would take them shopping to look for the artificial Christmas tree of my dreams. At this point I should have realized that I must have had a small stroke or something. However, my mommy radar was obviously out of whack so off I went with four kids to look for the perfect tree.
Scattered in amongst our tree shopping we were also looking for the perfect dress shirts for the boys to wear for the family portrait being taken Wednesday morning. This realization thrilled them even more than the whole tree shopping thing.
After five stores and lots of whining and complaining we did manage to find the shirts. However, their was not a good tree in sight.
What do you think hubby will do to me when I tell him we should go back to Sam's tomorrow and buy the tree we had in our cart and I made him put back?
Yeah, yeah, I know.
Pray for me people.

A Recipe For Irritation
If your goal is to completely irritate your husband may I suggest the following actions:
First, ask him to go to Sam's Club with you to help purchase an Artificial Christmas tree.
Find said tree and watch hubby wrestle it onto the flat cart to take up to the check stand for purchase.
Wait several minutes and then express your doubts about whether this is really the tree your family should be buying.
After wringing your hands and melting into a mess of indecisiveness tell hubby you really don't want that tree. Watch hubby re wrestle tree off of flat cart and back onto big pile of stacked tree boxes.
Suggest that you now go to another store and look for a different tree.
I highly recommend skipping the last step.

22 Reasons For 22 Years
Twenty two years ago today my knight came and took me away from it all. Here are some of the reason's why I love him so.
1. When we are watching a sappy movie you wiggle your foot furiously during the parts where I am generally crying. I guess to stop yourself from turning into a mushy mess like your wife.
2. Every time you give me a card or send me flowers you sign the card like this: I love you, I adore you, and I can't live without you. You started this when we were dating. You continue to this day. I am sure their are many times you think to yourself "You know, she is really irritating me and it would be OK if she just went and got her own little apartment around the corner". However, you never say that.
3. The way you get all soft and mushy when your little girl runs to you and says " I lub you daddy" and plants a big one on your lips.
4. You are one of the most disciplined people I know. You work out every day Monday thru Friday. When we go on vacation you always ask if the hotel has a gym. You think it is funny when I ask if they have room service.
5. You are a good friend to all and generous to a fault. We saw some old friends at church this past weekend. They reminded me how you had given them one of our cars to drive for 3 months when there's was repossessed during a rocky spot in their lives. This allowed the husband to get a new job and have a way to get there. Nine years later they still remember and are thankful.
6. I love the way that you throw yourself into anything you do 100%....even if it does drive me crazy.
7. I love that you don't like the kids or I to tell anyone that you have a PH.D in Physics. You think it is bragging.
8. I love the looks on people's faces when they find out you have a PHD in Physics. They usually can't believe a cool jock like you could also have such a cool brain.
9. I love that you were embarrassed when I told you some of the Mom's on Garrett's baseball team were checking out your muscular arms and asking me how often you worked out.
10. I love that you laugh when I tell you my little joke about how I will be sure to give you full custody of all the children if you ever dare think of trading me in for a newer model. It cracks me up how the very thought of such a thing sends shivers up your spine. (I know, I know, you would never think such a thing. It is just very funny to say because you get so upset. You are very fun to tease...).
11. I love how no matter what I make for dinner you always tell me it was great.
12. Once or twice a year some emergency comes up and I call you at work to say "Honey, I really need you to come home now". And you know what? You always come. Immediately. Because you know if I didn't really need you I wouldn't ask.
13. You love Jesus.
14. You can remember Bible Versus that you learned for Bible Bowl when you were in Junior High but you can't remember the name of someone you met last week. That's why we are a good team. I can remember the name of the person we met last week but can't remember anything I learned before our first child was born. Go figure.
15. I love the way you look when one of your children asks you to go outside and throw the ball around with them. Your expression always says "How did I get so lucky"?
16. I love that you read the Little League rule book over and over and know all the rules front and back. I especially love it when an obnoxious manager (particular one will not be mentioned here) argues a rule to which you know he is incorrect and you can whip out your trusty rule book and find the exact rule within minutes proving that loud mouth wrong within seconds. Can you tell how much I love this???
17. I love that you always want me to be happy.
18. I love that you can't lie. This is especially helpful around Christmas time. If I ask you if I am getting a certain present you just smile and turn your head. Even though it would be OK to fib a little to keep the Christmas surprise you just can't do it with a straight face.
20. I love that you are still a kid at heart and can play video games with the best of them (meaning your children). You have this cute way of totally getting into the game, scrunching up your face, and firing your torpedo's at the target like you are not sitting in our living room but are actually in a fighter jet 30,000 miles in the air. The kids love this too.
21. I love that you are such a hard worker and your family is so important to you. You have never wanted me to work (unless I really wanted to) and have allowed me the privilege of being home raising our family. We are all so lucky to have you.
22. I love that you will be embarrassed by all the things I have just said about you. I am sure you will argue with me about a few of them saying you are undeserving. That is why I love you so.

HAPPY FATHER'S DAY
I woke up this morning to an empty bed. Hubby had gotten up early to have Zach at his baseball game by 8:00am. You might ask "Who would schedule a baseball tournament for Father's Day weekend"? My guess would be, a father who loves baseball.
He had two games yesterday which neither of us could go to because we had the big blow out pool party for our youngest son in the afternoon. More on than later.
I can't think of anything my hubby would rather do on Father's Day than watch one of his boys play ball. Since they had another double header he was probably in Daddy heaven.
The other kid's and I stayed home (to let Daddy eat his peanuts in peace for a change) and cleaned up the house a little from yesterday's fun in the sun.
We also stayed in our pj's until 3:00pm, watched a Bonanza marathon and generally just laid around doing nothing.
We also watched the College world series. Louisville vs Mississippi. The kids asked who we should root for. I said Mississippi because I had a friend named BooMama who was a fan. The kids asked "Boo Who"? I told them it was a lady who had a blog I like to read and she talks about her Bulldogs all the time so we should root for them. "Do you mean this is one of your fake friends"? they asked. Well, not really fake, but I don't know her in real life. Disgusted looks came my way, though they did agree to support the Bulldogs. Which wasn't easy. They lost by a lot. I'm sorry BooMama.
Our Titans play tomorrow. Hopefully they will do better than the Bulldogs.
I have to go now. Hubby got home around 3:00pm and he wants steak for dinner. Which means I actually have to stand up and leave my comfortable couch.
Only for him would I actually do that. Dang I was comfy.

the best hubby ever
Thank you Lord for giving me the best husband ever. Thank you for answering my prayers 24 years ago and allowing me to fall in love with this great guy! He has been taking very good care of me while I lay on the couch not feeling my best. The kids have eaten, homework completed, and all have been lovingly placed in bed(even though some may have gone kicking and screaming). Who could ask for anything more? I am truly blessed!

Happy Valentine's Day to the One I Love....

Twenty Four years ago I met a boy named Dave who I thought was really nice. We were friends but I always felt bad because I didn't like him the way he "liked" me. I was young and stupid and yearned for one that was all wrong for me. One day when this other person hadn't been very nice to me I asked God why I couldn't fall in love with a nice guy, the kind like that guy who came over every weekend to watch football with my Dad, and ate my mom's summer squash even though I knew he didn't really like it? A guy like Dave. All my girlfriends thought he was great. One evening my friend, Lisa, asked me if I was ever going to give him a chance. I said "No", I just don't like him "that way". Well, she said, I think he's really cute so if you don't like him I'm going to ask him out. WHAT?

Why is it us girls never seem to want anything until we think we might not be able to have it? That weekend I agreed to go to an NFL football game with Dave. We had a really good time but I still wasn't sure if I could "like him, like him". The next day a beautiful gold box was delivered to my parents house. Inside were a dozen yellow roses. He had taken the time to find out what my favorite flower was. Yellow roses, not red. Cupid's arrow pierced my heart that day and within a few short weeks I couldn't understand how I could not have immediately "liked" this guy. He was great!
We were married about 18 months after that first date. I thank God for answering my prayers and allowing me to fall in love with the greatest guy around. Honey, thanks for a fantastic twenty two years! I love you more than you could ever imagine.
