Quote of the Day
Me: Mom, your hair looks so nice today.
Mom: Thanks, Angela (her grand daughter), came over and gave me a perm and colored my hair.
Me: I love the new color.
Mom: Me to. I'm just not ready to be gray yet.
My mom will turn 90 in November.
Something tells me she will never be ready to go gray.
Here she is with my Dad before her new color.
She now has beautiful ash blonde hair again.
My mom always looks good. I hope I am as healthy and happy as my parents when I am almost 90.
You both are an inspiration!
*******************************************************************************
My parents have already started a photo album for our new Ethiopian kids. They are very distressed that we only have 5 pictures of them.
That is so sweet and it is such a blessing to our family that my parents are supporting us in our adoption as fully as they are.
We love you both so so much!!!!

A little Bloggy Business
I am way behind in my blog posts. I told ya all that my charger pooped out on me. Hubby ordered me a new one and it finally came yesterday.
I am in the dog house with my family as their are some pictures they have been waiting for me to post and I obviously couldn't because I HAD NO CHARGER AND THUS NO COMPUTER.
My sister, Stacey, called me from South America the other day and one of the first things out of her mouth was "How come the pictures of mom and dad aren't up on the blog yet?"
So, in order to get back into the good graces of my family here are the pictures they have so patiently been waiting for.
Firstly, here is Mom and Dad in their vests my oldest sister Nancy got them for Christmas. Aren't they cute?

Here is Paige in her new chef's outfit grandma and grandpa got her. She loves to wear it and help Mom in the kitchen.
Hmm, I think it might need a little bit more of something.
A little more salt should do it.
My big sis is so cool, she even wears her shades to help me in the kitchen.
More pictures to come soon. I'm off now to make pancakes with my little helper.

Nurture or Nature?
My mother in law, Janice, died about six years ago. She was a wonderful person who loved Jesus with all her heart. She was a church secretary for many many years and much to my husbands dismay, as a young teen, drug him to every church event in sight.
Janice loved to cook. She loved recipes and making new things for her family. However, she seemed to have the curse that afflicts many in my husbands family. She was very very slow. Hubbies family rarely ate a meal before 9:00pm. This was a real source of amusement for all his friends.
Now, I don't want to make it sound like being slow is a bad thing. It is just very different from who I am. I like things done fast. As I have stated on this blog before, I am not a patient person.
My mother in law loved to shop. I hate it. She always looked impeccable and had on a nicely pressed outfit. I like jeans and a t-shirt. Her home was always neat and tidy, and mine, well, we won't even go there.
After Janice died my sister in law, Cheryl, and I went through her apartment and sorted through years of history and memories. We also found some other things that fascinated me.
My mother in law lived through the depression. Having done so she was a very thrifty person and saved anything she felt might be useful at another time. I found neatly folded paper bags stashed perfectly into many little hiding places. She also kept all of her plastic bags and had a way of folding them up perfectly into little balls to store that was almost an art form. I could never get my plastic bags like that no matter how hard I tried.
Now, lets move forward a few years to examine my beautiful 11 year old daughter.
She is the only one in the family that has reddish blonde hair (Auburn) and green eyes. Like her grandma Janice.
This girl loves to shop. She loves clothes and jewelery and could browse for hours. Her room is always perfect. She loves to organize and re-organize her closet to make it the most efficient closet it can possibly be. She is slow and methodical and gets mad at me when I tell her to just throw an item of clothing in the dryer for a few moments to get the wrinkles out. She would never think of such a thing. The iron is her friend. Her grandma loved to iron and, as far as I am concerned, was a champion at it.
Not to long ago I was looking for something in her room and came across a plastic bag that had lots of other plastic bags inside....rounded up into little perfect balls. Just like her Grandma used to do.
I asked my sweet girl why she did that. "It just made sense Mom, I can use them again". But how did you know how to get the bags into those perfect little balls? "I don't know mom, it just came natural I guess". Hmmm.
Sometimes when I watch Samantha I see Janice's mannerisms and I just can't believe how much they are alike.
Two Sunday's ago I walked into Samantha's room on Sunday morning to a sight that confirmed to me forever more that my mother in law is guiding my daughter's hands from heaven.
This is what I saw.

You see, she had this sweater she wanted to wear to church. She washed it Saturday night and figured it wouldn't have time to lay dry over night. So she fastened it to her ceiling fan (with a pillow case underneath to protect her garment of course) and let it twirl away all night to dry. It worked beautifully.
I never would have thought to do something like that. However, her grandma would have.
I am sure I will continue to marvel at the similarities between my girl and her grandma. How she can be so like her, even though she knew her for such a short time, I really don't understand. However, I count it as a blessing to have this small part of my mother in law still with us. I am sure she is looking down from heaven and is so pleased with her little granddaughter. This makes me smile.
How about your family? Do you see some of the same things in your children?

Grandma Came a Visiting And Life Was So Good
My mom is 5 feet 4 inches tall. She probably weighs 120 pounds soaking wet. She is 87 years old.
My kids adore her.
She lives about 45 minutes away and we don't see her or my Dad as much as we should. (Insert very guilty look here)
Monday evening Dave picked her up after he got off work and brought her home with him. Our little Garrett was so excited he refused to go to Vacation Bible School that evening. He needed to be with his grandma.
My mom never ceases to amaze me.
She shows up in a cute new outfit she picked up at Ross. A really pretty shade of green Capri's with a new sporty top. My daughter was so proud. She is sure I am adopted.
My favorite outfit is an old pair of shorts, t-shirt and a pair of flip flops.
Mother never leaves her house without makeup and her hair done.
I think pulling up your hair in a pony tail and throwing on a baseball cap is a great look. Makeup? Hmm. I usually throw some on right before hubby gets home so he doesn't know what a slob I have looked like all day.
Do you want to know what my most favorite part of my mom's visits are? (other than she is fun to hang out with and I love having her around so much)
MY MOM LOVES TO DO LAUNDRY!
For a mother of 5 a mom like that is a God send.
Before she came the kids reminded me to be sure and get ALL the laundry done. They didn't want her bothered with the laundry, they wanted to watch baseball (my mom is a huge Dodger fan) and play Backgammon. Laundry was not on the schedule.
The problem is I tell my Mom not to worry about the laundry. However, she cant help it. She has OCD in this department. When I was a kid you would throw something in the laundry basket and it would be spinning in the wash within minutes. SHE CANNOT STAND ANYTHING IN THE DIRTY LAUNDRY BASKET.
So, as I, of course, did not get all the laundry done before she came I did the next best thing.
Tried to hide it in my closet.
This morning she came down and asked me if all the clothes in my closet were clean because she would be happy to fold and put them away.
OK, I could not lie to my MAMA. I had to confess.
The laundry was spinning within moments.
She washed and folded 5 loads.
I only have one left to be all caught up.
Ain't my mama great?
She is going home tomorrow but has informed me she will be back next week.
To do more laundry, and play lots of backgammon.
I am so thankful I have a mama who loves me and laundry too!
Aren't you jealous?
