Ouch!!!
We got a quote to add Zach (16) to our car insurance policy. The insurance agent told me it would be $240.00 a month. He actually said that with a straight face. After I fainted he said he would try and get it down a little lower and call me back. $204.80 is what he came back with.

Is it just me or does that sound ridiculously high for a kid who is suppose to be getting the good student discount?

Dave called another insurance company and they gave him a quote of $130.00 a month. After the first quote, that sounded like a real bargain. However, that is still a lot of money. Of course if he was a female child I am told the price would be a third of that.

That ice cream truck idea is sounding better and better.

I know that California is pricey for everything but this just seems ridiculous. Anyone out there know of a cheap insurance company for teens with good grades?

Please help!

I think this is why many parents make their kids pay for their own car insurance fees. :)

Hi Ladies,

I agree that it would be great for him to pay for his own insurance. However, he is working towards a full sports scholarship right now (which it looks like he is going to get) and can't work more than a few hours a week to pay for gas. I would rather pay for the insurance than college. He would probably be fine with not driving at all, however, I WANT him to drive. It is a huge help having another driver in the house.

Thankfully we are able to pay for the insurance. I was just a little shocked at the initial quote.

Have a great day,
Julie

Have you tried Geiko? So easy even a caveman can do it!

Just kidding, I don't know anything about insurance, but that sounds dang high! Our son pays for his own and I'm sure it's not that much. I hope you find a good solution!

In Oklahoma, my 16 year old pays 65.00 a month for him. We go through Farmers. This is with multi car and house insurance discounts, as well as his good student discount. Still much cheaper than they quoted you! Do you have Farmers out there?
